What is All-on-X?

All-on-X replaces a full upper or lower row of teeth with one bridge secured to four to six implants. The bridge stays in place; your dentist removes it when needed.

How your new teeth attach
  1. Implants placedFour to six implants, small posts that act as tooth roots, go into the jawbone. The back ones are often angled to make the most of your bone.
  2. Connectors attachedSmall connectors called multi-unit abutments attach to the implants. They allow the bridge to connect to implants placed at different angles.
  3. Bridge securedYour full-arch bridge is screwed onto the connectors, and it stays in place.

All-on-4, All-on-6, teeth in a day: what the names mean

All-on-4 uses four implants per arch (one full row of teeth); All-on-6 uses six. All-on-X is the umbrella name: the number is chosen for your jaw. "Teeth in a day" means fixed temporary teeth on surgery day. Other names: full-arch or full mouth dental implants, implant-supported bridge, permanent or fixed dentures. A snap-in implant denture is different: you take it out.

Is All-on-X right for you?

All-on-X is usually considered when most teeth in the upper or lower row are missing or can't be saved. It can replace the top row, the bottom row or both. Sound familiar?

Your denture slips, rubs or needs adhesive
Picture eating, talking and laughing without thinking about your teeth.
Your teeth are loose, broken or painful
Teeth that can't be saved can often be removed and replaced in the same surgery.
Most of your teeth are already gone
A whole row is replaced in one plan, not tooth by tooth.
You've been told you don't have enough bone
That doesn't automatically rule you out. BestCare Dental offers bone grafting when more bone is needed.

All-on-X vs. dentures: how they compare

How long does All-on-X take?

Implant surgery takes one day, and many patients leave with fixed temporary teeth. The final bridge follows once you've healed, usually a few months later.

  1. 01Consultation

    See your options

Dr. Otteson examines your mouth, takes digital X-rays and jawbone imaging, and walks you through your options. If you go ahead, he plans each implant and how your new teeth will look and bite. Bone grafting, if needed, adds time.

  2. 02Surgery day

    Implants and temporary teeth

Any teeth that cannot be saved are removed, and the implants and connectors are placed. Many patients receive a fixed temporary bridge that day.

  3. 03A few months

    Your final bridge

The implants fuse with your jawbone. Then your final bridge replaces the temporary one, shaped to your gums and fine-tuned to your bite.

Does All-on-X hurt?

You shouldn't feel the surgery itself, because your mouth is numbed. Soreness and swelling for several days are normal; we give you medication and instructions to manage them.

Healing and everyday care

The first weeks
Eat soft foods while the implants heal; we'll tell you what and when. Speech may feel different for a few days as your tongue adjusts.
Cleaning fixed teeth
Brush twice a day and clean under the bridge with a water flosser or floss threader. We'll show you how.
Check-ups
Regular cleanings and check-ups keep implants and gums healthy. Now and then we take the bridge off for a deep clean.

All-on-X questions, answered

All-on-X teeth are fixed in place. With good home care and regular check-ups, implants can last many years; the bridge may need repair or replacement over time.

Smoking and conditions such as diabetes can affect how implants heal. Dr. Otteson reviews your health history at the consultation and explains what it means for you.

Occasionally an implant doesn't bond with the bone or develops a problem later. Dr. Otteson can examine it and explain the options.

There's no upper age limit. Your overall health, how well you heal and your jawbone matter more than your age.

Yes. Financing options are available through Cherry, Sunbit, CareCredit and Alphaeon, and our team can explain the options.

Often, yes. Many All-on-X patients wore dentures for years first. Imaging shows how much bone you have, and bone grafting can help where more is needed.
